Myrrhzone Molyac Institute Develops High-Functionality ‘Myrrh toothpaste’ in Collaboration with Daejeon University
Myrrhzone Molyac Institute (Biorootics Co., Ltd.), a registered bio-venture company, has successfully developed a high-functionality myrrh-based toothpaste in partnership with the LINC Foundation of Daejeon University, an institution renowned for its expertise in Oriental Medicine.
On the 23rd, a "New Product Launch Event for Jointly Researched Myrrh Toothpaste" was held at the Industry-Academic Cooperation Building of Daejeon University. The event was attended by Vice President Lee Bong-hwan (Director of the LINC Foundation), executives from Myrrhzone Molyac Institute, and the university's research faculty. The new product, named ‘Myrrh toothpaste’ after the scientific name for myrrh, is a high-performance toothpaste containing over 10% of ‘MHS-90’. MHS-90 is the only patented myrrh-based compound in Korea, formulated by combining seven traditional herbal ingredients, including myrrh, Achyranthes root, and Poria cocos. Myrrh toothpaste will officially go on sale starting on the 24th.
As reports indicate that gum disease—an ailment experienced by 8 out of 10 adults—can trigger systemic diseases, public interest in its prevention is rising. In particular, Myrrh (Kareube) has long been used to treat stomatitis and gingivitis and was regarded as a highly precious treasure in the Middle East and Medieval Europe. It is a component that appears dozens of times in the Bible and Heo Jun’s Dongui Bogam. Famous as one of the gifts presented by the Magi along with gold and frankincense at the birth of Jesus, myrrh was an essential and valuable household medicine for mothers and newborns in eras when pharmaceuticals were scarce. Guggulsterone, the primary active ingredient in myrrh, is exceptionally effective in preventing gum disease, periodontitis, and cavities, as well as removing plaque and bad breath.
Jin-woo Kim, Director of Myrrhzone Molyac Institute, stated, "Myrrh toothpaste, created using Korea's only patented myrrh composition and manufacturing technology, is a high-functionality product co-developed with expert faculty, including Professor Bae Eun-young of Daejeon University. We expect it to contribute significantly to gum health." He added, "The product is also scheduled for export to the Middle East and Southeast Asia."
