Myrrh: Dreaming of a Virtuous Cycle in Agriculture and Enhancing Global Health

I have a profound fondness for the term "virtuous cycle." It embodies the beautiful idea of goodness connecting and flowing continuously.
Long ago, humanity lived in harmony with nature, simply gathering and consuming fruits as they ripened. However, as we sought to maximize harvests, we began the laborious task of eliminating pests and providing artificial nutrients. In this pursuit of abundance, the "virtuous cycle" was broken, leaving humanity with new and complex dilemmas. Today, we consume food and water without choice, often wondering, "Is it truly safe to use such vast amounts of chemical antimicrobials and fertilizers?"
The sight of green algae blooms in our rivers, frequently reported in the news, serves as a stark reminder of the need to return to our roots. Those who understand the cause of these blooms—eutrophication—cannot help but worry. Excess nitrogen and phosphorus from fertilizers leak into waterways, depleting oxygen and allowing only toxin-producing algae to thrive. Ultimately, this leads to a "vicious cycle" where contaminated water is reused to cultivate crops.
Returning to a virtuous cycle is no easy feat. Changing established conventional farming practices is difficult, and one cannot simply force a transition to virtuous agriculture.
For over 20 years, I have dedicated my life to studying a natural substance called Myrrh (Kareube). Also known as "myrrh," it is a natural resin harvested from the bark of Commiphora myrrha, a tree native to Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. It appears as resinous granules ranging from pale yellow to dark brown.
Historical records, such as the Bible, note that the Magi presented myrrh as a gift to the infant Jesus. Furthermore, the Compendium of Materia Medica (Bencao Gangmu) records its ability to "resolve blood stasis, improve circulation, and alleviate pain."
My research has confirmed that myrrh extract possesses antimicrobial effects against airborne microorganisms and anti-inflammatory properties even at low concentrations. Recently, I also confirmed its high efficacy in reducing influenza viruses. I have published papers in academic journals proving that the components responsible for these antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral effects are the polyphenols and terpenoids found in myrrh.
In 2016, I was selected for a project to develop a fertilizer combining fermented myrrh complex with microbes. Since its distribution to farms three to four years ago, I have heard heartening stories from farmers who have reduced their reliance on chemical agents while increasing their yields, thanks to this fertilizer.
I dream of a future where fertilizers made from fermented myrrh complexes serve as the catalyst for returning to a virtuous cycle in agriculture.
