Myrrhzone Molyac Institute and Metec Holdings Sign MOU for Carbon Reduction Using Methane Capsules
Myrrhzone Molyac Institute has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Metec Holdings (Metec), a startup specializing in livestock methane gas research, to push forward a joint project for carbon reduction using methane capsules. The two companies announced on the 15th that they will begin the full-scale joint development of low-carbon feed.
The signing ceremony took place on the 14th at Metec’s headquarters in InterContinental Seoul Coex, Samseong-dong, Seoul. Attendees included Dr. Jin-woo Kim, Director of Myrrhzone Molyac Institute; Chan-mok Park, CEO of Metec; Yong-geun Choi, CEO of microbial research firm Choi Lab; and Jun-ho Kang, a veterinarian and professional advisor to Myrrhzone.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Myrrhzone Molyac Institute successfully manufactured ‘Kareube Feed Supplement’ based on its patented fermented myrrh complex (MHS-90). The supplement combines MHS-90—patented for its antimicrobial and immune-boosting properties in livestock feed (Patent No. 10-2223084)—with taurine, an essential amino acid for livestock and pets. It is currently being distributed to Kareube Poultry Farm in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, where it has received highly positive reviews.
Dr. Jin-woo Kim, a renowned expert who has dedicated 20 years to myrrh research, is one of Korea’s leading authorities on the subject. Through two decades of scientific inquiry, he has verified myrrh's antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral (influenza virus reduction) effects, publishing his findings in the SCI-indexed global journal Applied Sciences.
Metec is a specialized firm that successfully developed the ‘Methane Capsule,’ a device capable of measuring and sensing methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) inside a cow’s stomach. The company has also developed capsules to reduce methane emissions and currently exports its technology to five countries, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and government agencies in Brazil, Australia, the Netherlands, and the U.K.
"There is immense interest in low-carbon Hanwoo (K-Cow). We are currently standardizing low-carbon certification for K-Cow using blockchain-based systems in collaboration with Hessegg," said Chan-mok Park, CEO of Metec. "If we succeed in developing low-carbon feed with Myrrhzone Molyac Institute, we can export this technology globally."
Dr. Jin-woo Kim added, "Methane gas from cattle is a serious issue, and livestock health is directly linked to human survival and welfare. Through this MOU, we hope Kareube Feed Supplement can contribute to reducing carbon emissions. We will commence research on reducing livestock methane using our myrrh-infused supplement and Metec’s methane capsules. The results will be published in SCI-indexed international journals in collaboration with Choi Lab, a specialist in microbial instrumental analysis."
